P4B have been learning all about fractions. They have completed lots of activities and have been finding out that you can use fractions for almost anything! They were able to find and write simple fractions, shade or colour given fractions, they have even learnt about simple, equivalent fractions and played some fraction games and fraction problem solving. Their favourite task was the sweetie activity, first they had to guess/predict how many sweets were in the packet, then they had to open the packet and sort them into the different colours/flavours. They used fractions to explain and compare the amount of each colour/flavour in the packet. After calculating the fractions they had to share the sweets equally between their group and see how many they had left over. Then the best part was making the sweets disappear by…. eating them! They also used fractions to describe the letters in their name. For example, what fraction of the letters in their name were vowels or what fraction were tall letters? Well done boys and girls!
