On 11th December, our Primary 6 pupils enjoyed an unforgettable visit to the Lyric Theatre in Belfast to watch a vibrant adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. This family-friendly performance captured all the classic themes of the novel—loneliness, greed, and redemption—while adding a distinctive Northern Ireland twist that transformed Victorian London into the streets of Belfast. This trip marked the highlight of our ongoing Charles Dickens learning journey. So far, the children have explored Great Expectations, A Christmas Carol, and Oliver Twist, with David Copperfield and Hard Times still to come. Through these texts, pupils are developing a deep understanding of Dickens’ recurring themes and learning how his works shaped society’s views on social justice and the spirit of Christmas. The Lyric Theatre staff praised the pupils for their exemplary behaviour throughout the visit. The day’s most memorable moment came when the star of the show, Ebenezer Scrooge—portrayed brilliantly by local actor Dan Gordon—personally greeted the children after the performance, making the experience truly special. This outing was not only a festive celebration but also an enriching educational experience that brought literature to life in a way the pupils will never forget.
