Primary 3 have been busy exploring Instructional Writing in Literacy this week. The children have been learning all about how to sequence instructions carefully and follow them step by step.
As part of our topic ‘Bright Sparks‘ we have been investigating some magnificent creations, including Chocolate. We decided it would be great fun to combine our new topic knowledge and Literacy learning together! In our first lesson, the class followed a set of instructions to make delicious chocolate-covered marshmallows. They melted chocolate in the microwave, placed marshmallows on skewers, dipped them into the warm chocolate, and, of course, enjoyed tasting their creations!
Next, the children put their learning to the test by giving instructions to their teacher on how to make a jam sandwich. There were lots of laughs as the teacher ended up spreading butter over the whole loaf instead of the slices — a perfect reminder of how important clear, precise instructions can be!
The children are already excited to see what set of instructions they’ll get to follow (or give!) next. What a fun and tasty way to learn about writing!
