Today our Primary 3 classes hosted their P3 Pals from Antrim Primary School, for a special day of learning and friendship. Our Shared Education programme is following ‘Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing’ designed to ensure good mental health is maintained. With the inspiring theme of ‘Keep Learning‘, the children embraced the opportunity to try something new and grow together.
During the session pupils were introduced to Makaton, a language programme that uses speaking and signs to support communication. Primary 3 learned how to use Makaton signs to accompany the beautiful song ‘Sing’ by Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber. It was wonderful to see the children singing and signing together. Their confidence grew as they learned a completely new skill!
Following on from Children’s Mental Health Week, we also took time to explore positive affirmations, learning how important it is to speak kindly to ourselves. The children had a little moment to reflect and shared their positive affirmations to their group. Then we discussed how positive self-talk and self-kindness makes us feel and how that positivity helps us show more kindness to others.
We are already looking forward to our next catch-up with our friends from Antrim Primary School.
