P6A Explore Japan: The Land of the Rising Sun

This term, Primary 6A have been immersing themselves in an exciting World Around Us topic – Japan: The Land of the Rising Sun. The children have embraced this fascinating culture with enthusiasm and curiosity, engaging in a range of creative and investigative learning experiences. In Art, we explored the iconic work of Japanese artist Hokusai, focusing on Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji. Inspired by his famous style, the children created their own striking pieces, experimenting with colour, movement and pattern. As part of our learning about Japanese language and writing systems, pupils enjoyed using a katakana converter to translate their names into Japanese, discovering how names can be represented in a new and unique way. Our classroom has been transformed with a beautiful Japan display, showcasing the children’s artwork and research. It continues to grow as we add new learning and celebrate our progress. The class have thoroughly enjoyed this topic so far and are showing great enthusiasm for discovering more about Japan’s culture, traditions and geography. We look forward to continuing our journey and sharing more of our learning!
