As part of our theme ‘My Beautiful Body’, the Primary One classes have been learning all about the pharmacy and the important role of the pharmacist.
On Tuesday 3rd March, the Primary One children visited their local Boots pharmacy on Antrim High Street. We were warmly welcomed by the store manager, Amie Walker, along with members of the pharmacy team.
The team had prepared a lovely, child-friendly display of familiar medicines and everyday items that children might see at the pharmacy. They explained the main jobs of the pharmacist and described the journey of medicine — from where it is made to how it arrives safely at the pharmacy.
The most important advice the children learned was that they should never touch or take any medication that is not meant for them. They were also taught that medicines should always be stored safely out of reach of children, kept in their original packaging, and only used under adult supervision.
During the visit, the pharmacist kindly gave each child their own medicine box to take back to school. The children later decorated their boxes and carefully labelled them with their names.
The children asked some fantastic questions during the visit and were delighted to leave with a lovely goodie bag, including their own medicine box and a small treat to take home.
What a great morning! Thank you to Amie and the team at Boots Antrim High Street for such an enjoyable and informative visit.
