This Term Primary 3 have been learning about water through our topic of ‘Liquid Gold.’ As part of our learning, we have been exploring the art style of ‘Impressionism’ through Claude Monet.
Using Monet’s soft colours and expressive brushstrokes as inspiration, the children created their own stunning pond scenes. To make their backdrop canvas, they experimented with paper plates and kitchen roll, applying watercolour paints to blend blues, greens and purples. This allowed them to explore texture and movement, just as Monet did when capturing reflections on water.
For the lily pads and flowers, the children carefully cut shapes from card and enhanced them with oil pastels to add bold lines and detail. Tissue paper was used to create delicate, layered petals, giving each artwork a beautiful three-dimensional effect.
Throughout the project, Primary 3 developed their skills in colour mixing, layering and composition. They showed wonderful creativity and care, and it was fantastic to see how confidently they experimented with different materials and techniques – as well as how unique each finished masterpiece turned out!
The finished pieces are vibrant, textured and full of imagination — a lovely celebration of Monet’s work and Primary 3’s growing artistic talents.
