After receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation in February, our P7 classes made their special Confirmation Pledge, committing to abstain from alcohol until the age of 18 and to stay drug-free for life. It was a meaningful and reflective moment for all involved. We thank Dean our Youth Minister and Frances, our Parish Pioneer Association representative. Here’s what 2 of our pupils had to say, “Our Confirmation Pledge Mass was on Wednesday 20th May. We made a silent promise to God to not drink alcohol before the age of 18, to never take illegal drugs and to never smoke or vape. The morning of Pledge day we went to the St. Comgall’s Parish Centre and we took part in a Pledge Retreat. The people who led the Retreat were called Frances and Dean, they talked about the dangers of alcohol and drugs and why to avoid them. After that, we took part in a roleplay about people going to the bar and showing the effects of what happens when you drink too much alcohol. At the end of the Retreat in the Parish Centre, we went back to school and wrote some facts in our books about alcohol. After lunch, we went back to the Parish Centre and played some fun games with Father David. Finally, we went to the Church to start the Pledge Mass. It was a very beautiful ceremony and we all enjoyed the day very much.” (Zoey and Maja P7A)
