Over the past few weeks, some of our pupils have been exploring the themes of ‘Once Upon a Time’ and ‘Home Sweet Home.’
They have been listening to and talking about a variety of different Traditional Stories; ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears,’ ‘Little Red Riding Hood,’ ‘Jack and the Beanstalk,’
‘The Gingerbread Man’ and ‘The Three Little Pigs.’
They are having great fun retelling and acting out the stories in their own words using some
well-known lines:
‘Who’s been eating my porridge?’ ‘Oh grandma, what big eyes you have!’ ‘Then I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your house down!’ ‘Fee fi fo fum, watch out everyone, here I come!’ ‘Run, run, as fast as you can, you can’t catch me, I’m…’
They have been learning about the structure of stories:
1. The beginning: ‘Once upon a time’
2. The middle: the problem/dilemma
3. The end: ‘…and they all lived happily ever after.’
This week the pupils have also been playing games to help them learn vocabulary associated with the stories: porridge, bed, chimney, window, door, house of straw, house of sticks and house of bricks.
